Day +446 – Recommendations for skin care

Well, the far-reaching effects of having a second opinion from another dermatologist have already landed home!  While I was not having any recommendations from my prior derm at Emory, I was following the advice of my oncology medical team for skin care.

Mainly they said that, “gosh, that looks painful” to my red, cracked, peeling, painful areas on my arms, legs and torso.  Well, other than putting on Protopic and triamcinolone, they have been attempting to remedy it through pill adjustments.

Well, this new derm gave me prescriptions for Clobetasol and Mymix super-hydrating lotion to compound (mix) at home.  Within ONE treatment, the red, broken areas of skin have nearly healed! Go team!

Now, Clobetasol is the strongest steroidal ointment out there, so you have to be very sparse with it so as not to thin your skin (and also make you hyper and want to eat way, way too much sugar! No kidding, taking in steroids through the skin has the same, immediate effect as a steroid pill! Insane).

Katie highly recommends using a latex glove to apply these ointments and lotions to the skin as a caregiver, because it goes on so much easier than by hand! Thanks Katie!

Not to mention, the caregiver would want to avoid absorbing the drug through the palms of her hands!
